Milta is an Assyrian–English dictionary at milta.app, with an iPhone app that searches a copy of the same public word list. This page describes what those two actually do.

The website

Search. You can look up words without an account. The words you type are sent to milta.app so the site can search. The dictionary is stored in a Postgres database hosted by Supabase. Your browser also keeps a copy of the public dictionary index in local storage, under the keys milta-search-index-v1, so a later visit can show matches sooner. That copy is the public word list.

On this device. The light, dark, or system theme is saved in local storage as milta-theme. The site does not use a third-party analytics product, advertising, or tracking cookies.

Logs. The app writes its own operational logs. A search log includes how long the query was, whether it was Latin or Syriac, timing, and how many results came back. It does not include the words you typed. A sample of page-speed numbers (largest contentful paint, interaction delay, and time to first byte) and the page path are sent to milta.app and written to those logs. The host that runs the site can still keep ordinary request logs. A search is part of the page address, so those host logs can include the words you typed and your IP address.

IP addresses. The site reads your IP address only in memory, to slow down abusive bursts of searches, speed measurements, and word suggestions. It is not saved with a suggestion.

Word suggestions. If you send a missing word from the site, we store the word, the definition you typed, the time, and a pending status so an editor can review it. The form does not ask for your name or email. Leave personal details out of the word and definition.

Editor sign-in. Dictionary editors sign in with email and password through Supabase Auth. Only email addresses on the admin allow list can use the admin tools. That session stays in the browser's local storage.

AI. Public search looks up the dictionary. It does not send what you type to an AI provider.

The iPhone app

The Milta app does not track you. It has no analytics, no ads, and no account. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data.

Your appearance choice (light, dark, or match the system) is stored on the device in the app's own settings. Nothing else about how you use the app is saved as a profile.

The app includes a copy of the public dictionary. When it has a network connection it asks milta.app whether a newer index exists. If one does, it downloads that public word list over HTTPS and replaces the saved copy only when the download is a complete list. Search runs on the phone from that copy, including while you are offline.

Sharing a word sends a normal link to the public page on milta.app. The app does not add an account or a device identifier to that link.
